There are lots of people who are interested in collecting autographs. Some do it for fun, others for investment purposes. If you're ready to enter the exciting world of collecting autographs, there is much to learn. If you want to obtain autographs from current notable figures, you can do so in person or by writing to request an autograph. Sometimes you will be successful, other times you will not. For vintage or rare autographs, you may need to find a dealer. There are lots of places where you can find all kinds of autographs for sale.

You may have an autograph dealer in your local area. A good dealer will have a variety of autographs for sale that come with a legitimate certificate of authenticity. They will be knowledgeable about the proper care and handling of autographs, and be able to tell a real from a fake. They will also be a member of one or more organizations such as the UACC, or Universal Autograph Collectors Club. While anyone can be a member of the UACC, dealers listed with the club must meet stringent requirements. A good autograph dealer will offer a lifetime guarantee of authenticity with every item.

There are lots of autographs for sale online. The bad news is that it is difficult to gauge the authenticity of an item by seeing an image of it on the computer. The good news is that the FBI has cracked down on forged autographs. More people these days are aware that forging a celebrity signature is a serious crime and won't risk it. If you come across a celebrity autograph for sale online that should be very valuable but is selling for cheap, that's a red flag. Like with a dealer, every online autograph seller should offer a lifetime guarantee of authenticity. Some sellers may not be aware that they have a fake autograph in their possession in the first place.

It's almost always going to be better to buy autographs for sale in person instead of online. That way you can examine the item for inconsistencies. For example, an autograph that is pre-printed or done with an autopen can be distinguished from the real thing with some close evaluation. When looking to purchase a valuable item, you should always obtain proper authentication from a licensed agency first.
